In search of DPA - CSO

You provide the link between shipboard staff and higher management, ensure the safe operation of each vessel within the scope of the SMS, monitor the safety and pollution-prevention aspects of vessel operations, and finally ensure adequate resources and shore based support is applied. You are the Appointed Company Security Officer.



  • Monitor , motivate and encourage all company personnel, including educating ship and shore based support staff in the use of the SMS and their active participation in implementing the Company’s Safety and Environmental policy and other issues outlined in the SMS manual.
  • Ensure that the vessels in all aspects comply with the requirements of Flag State Administration, Classification Society and Local Regulations.
  • Develop, maintain and distribute the SMS Manual on a regular basis.
  • Responsible that all internal and external audits are performed & completed in a timely matter.
  • Ensure that accident and incidents are reported and investigated and corrective actions are taken.
  • Responsible for the monitoring of all non-conformances, accidents, incidents, near misses and any other SMS performance reports and ensuring that they are effectively investigated, analysed and all CAR’s/ PAR’s closed out within agreed timelines;
  • You are the Appointed Company Security Officer
  • Responsible for the development of office emergency response plans and for ensuring that at least one office – ship emergency response drill is completed per annum;
  • Responsible for ensuring management and master reviews are scheduled and completed on time;
  • Responsible for scheduling office safety meetings, providing appropriate information and the recording and distribution of minutes;
  • Identify, manage and monitor risks; assess whether the safe practices recommended by IMO, Flag state and Class societies or other international bodies have been taken into account.



  • Lead by example in demonstrating the correct behaviour in implementing all HSSE programs.
  • Provide working conditions, which are justified as maintaining acceptable levels of safety and a healthy environment for all operations.
  • Ensure that the relevant risk assessments are undertaken and reviewed. Ensure and maintain all safeguards and controls as required by the SMS.
  • Monitor firefighting and emergency procedures and ensure all are implemented as per SMS.

What do we expect from you?

  • You have successfully completed studies in the nautical sector, with a min. COC of a C/O.
  • Min 5 years of practical nautical experience (preferably offshore sector).
  • Management experience is a plus.
  • HSSE qualification is a plus - ISM/ISPS/MLC auditor training is a plus.
  • Thorough knowledge of mandatory offshore industry and maritime rules and regulations, as well as guidelines and standards.
  • Technical and operational aspects of safety management and shipboard operations.
  • Effective communication skills, persistant, Friendly and confident.
